# Start a Project

## It Starts with a Project

To create an application in LogicNets you begin by creating a project. All applications live in project folder: a project is where you store all of the parts that go together to make your application, including logicnets, images, documents, and data.

## Projects Pane

In the Designer, the *Projects* pane is located on the left side of the screen and it is your starting place for building and managing your applications. This virtual file system houses all of your applications and their associated logicnets and resources. To expand an item in the *Projects* pane click the **+** icon next to that item in the folder tree. To contract, or hide an item, click the **–** icon next to that item. You can use your mouse or your keyboard arrow keys to navigate through the folder structure in the *Projects* pane.

## New Project

Click on the ***projects*** folder at the top of the *Projects* pane and then click on the ***New Project*** icon.

## Select a Template or Project Type

Select a template or project type from the list. For more information about what each one offers, click on the name of the template and additional information appears on the right side of the screen.

The available templates are based on some of our most commonly used frameworks:

* Assessment Framework
* Starter Application Framework
* Web Services Framework

To access other frameworks, including variations of the above, and frameworks customized by LogicNets for your use, choose the blank template in the Advanced section (further down on the screen shown above).

For a list of the licensed frameworks available in LogicNets, review our general description of frameworks [here](/release-9/logicnets-software-component-details/general-runtime-components/frameworks.md) or talk to your LogicNets representative about which frameworks you should license and use.

## Project Name

Once you have determined which template you want to use enter the name of your project and click *Create*.

## Project Details

The system creates your project and takes you to the *Details* tab of your project. This is where you can see high-level information about your project. It is also where you have the buttons to such actions as test, modify, and publish.

## Modify Project

To update the name of your project or change details about the project click on the project in the *Projects* pane. The project will open on the right side of the screen. Click *Modify* and make your changes.

When you click *Modify* on the project Details screen the system takes you to the project-level changes options. These include the description of the project, the framework upon which the project is created, and the layout associated with the project. It also gives you access to the *Framework* tab, which is where you can enter framework settings (described in the folder about that framework type).

For a list of common project settings and their function, see the article on Framework Project Details [here](/release-9/design-considerations-and-frameworks/frameworks/general-framework-information/project-details-common-settings-across-frameworks.md).

Once you have made changes click *save* to return to the project *Details* tab..

## Project Folders

Once you are satisfied with your project setup you can click on the swivel arrow next to the project name in the *Project* pane to open your project. Click on the *logicnets* or *resources* subfolders to continue creating your application.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://community-test.logicnets.com/release-9/getting-started/the-logicnets-designer/start-a-project.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
